November Events
by Laura Cole-Rowe
Don’t forget to “fall back” to standard time on Sunday, Nov. 4! For many of us, this means an extra hour of sleep or jamming some more activities into the weekend. Remember to change the batteries in your smoke detectors, as well!

On Friday, Nov. 2, from 7 to 10 p.m., celebrate a blues harvest with Barry "the Fish" Melton, Mike McGowan & the Mighty Delta Roadmasters with Cindy Tuttle, and Bill Scholer. A benefit for the Yolo Adult Day Health Center, the event will be held at the Davis Art Center, 1919 F Street (corner of Covell Boulevard and F Street), in Davis.

The event includes complimentary wine, finger foods and a silent auction for original works of art and unique gifts. Tickets are $35 and $15 (for those under 18 years of age) and will be available at the door, or by calling (530) 666-8828.

Proceeds raised at the benefit event will be used by the Friends of Adult Day Health Care to purchase a van to transport participants to and from the center on a daily basis.

For the first time in many years, the Pence Gallery is reviving the Artist Studio Tour. On Saturday, Nov. 3 and Sunday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the gallery will host a tour of 26 artist studios in Davis. Tour goers will have a chance to experience the space in which the artists create their work and have a chance to speak with the artists and gain insight into their work. This self-guided tour will offer the chance to see work on display in each studio, and to buy directly from artists.

It’s also a wonderful opportunity to buy early holiday gifts!

Tickets are $20 for Pence Gallery members, $25 for nonmembers, and includes a booklet/map with pictures and information on the artists’ work. The tickets may be purchased at Pence Gallery, 212 D Street, or at The Artery, 207 G Street, in Davis, or by phone with a credit card by calling the Pence Gallery, (530) 758-3370.

On Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17, there are plenty of reasons to stay around Davis and stay healthy!

On Friday, Nov. 16 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., A Change of Pace, Fleet Feet Sports-Davis, and the City of Davis have joined together to present a health and fitness fair. The fair will take place on the 600 block of Second Street in downtown Davis (the block in which Fleet Feet and the Varsity Theatre are located) and will feature health-oriented vendors and Turkey Trot race sponsors. The block will be closed to vehicular traffic during the fair.
