Mengali's Florist was started in Woodland in 1967 by Douglas and Diane Mengali, and moved to Davis in 1971.
Mengali’s is a full-service florist, providing traditional flower shop services as well as designing events. While many of its customers prefer traditional floral designs, Mengali’s can accommodate not-so-traditional designs, focusing on what best suits the customer’s needs. Overall, Mengali’s is about “putting smiles on faces and using the beauty of the flowers to bring beauty into lives, making the beauty full circle.” Mengali’s puts enormous emphasis on creativity and communication with the customer, and Brendan is quick to point out “no matter how large or how small the order, we’ll work with a customer on a small, unique arrangement or on the design of an entire event.”

Built on a foundation of quality customer service, Mengali’s has built a loyal following. Brendan estimates that Mengali’s has three generations of people shopping for flowers in the store, and he comments that he hears “my dad/mom shopped here,” more and more often. This supportive base helps imagination because of the feedback the store receives. Brendan takes a lot of time on his designs and appreciates what people have to say about them. Located on Second Street, across from the Varsity Theater, Mengali’s window display encourages people to pop in and offer feedback and encouragement. Brendan wants to “excite people and show them new things, new designs and put ideas forward that offer unique perspectives.”
