A scrumptious meal at the cozy home of a friend is the best way to describe our dinner at The Mustard Seed Restaurant in downtown Davis.
Our evening began next door, at Cafe Bernardo’s bar, where we enjoyed a cocktail before heading to the quaint cottage that serves as The Mustard Seed Restaurant. We needed a reservation on that bustling Saturday evening, and we were happy that owners Paul and Robyn Bergman were able to accommodate us, even though we grew from two to three when a friend joined us for dinner.
The cottage’s seating area consists of three small rooms and a lovely shaded patio in the back. Wood beamed ceilings, white tablecloths, a brick fireplace with a wine-laden mantle, bird houses, copper fish and stars decorate the cozy rooms. We were happy to see friends at the adjacent table and exchanged occasional pleasantries and jokes, and during the evening they asked us to keep down the noise and laughter.
